Got Milk??? Try this Moroccan Wedding Tradition...

If you're looking to incorporate an ancient Moroccan custom into your wedding preparation, you're going to love this one.

Moroccan weddings are very elaborate (some last seven days) so to prepare for the festivities, Moroccan brides enjoy a luxuriating milk bath to purify themselves and relax before the ceremony. This is followed-up with a beberiska ceremony in which the bride's hands and feet are painted with henna.

If you don't feel like making your own milk bath, try this Plus Buttermilk Bath Soak from H20 Plus or Skin Milk Foaming Bath at drugstores nationwide.

Hi there,
Great post. What I love about weddings overseas are the local traditions. Brides to be in Italy wear a green dress for luck on the night before the wedding. Should I ever get married in Italy, it's a great excuse for not only a fabulous wedding gown but an amazing green dress for the evening party before hand too.

Keep up the inspirational work.

I am in a relationship with a guy from Morocco. I recently spent 2 weeks there with him to meet his family and see his country. There were so many interesting things to learn about the social life of Moroccans and the culture in general. The first week and a half were busy, meeting family, going to the beach, eating couscous for the first time, family coming to the apt bringing food to share a traditional meal...the sekal...Medina. It was all so fun and interesting. However, I found that while walking around in the residential areas we held hands and once in non-residential areas, he would drop my hand like a hot potato!! I found out that if you are not married, you are not allowed to hold hands in public!Towards the end of the second week a female family member took me to a hammam. I think we scrubbed down to my birth skin!! LOL The next day we were at his friends house and it appeared to be a normal visit. Well, next thing I knew...a woman shows up and is talking with the friend's mother in French and Arabic. And before I knew what was going on, this lady is painting on my hands and feet with henna!! I thought ,"How sweet..they want me to feel at home." Once the henna dried, I tried on some native outfits and we took pics. And after that...we held hands freely in public!! People thought we were married!!! OMG!! In doing research my daughter has concluded that I am soooo married!! We,unbeknownst to me at the time, went thru alot of the pre-wedding preparations without the ceremony!! I just thought all that was fun everyday stuff!! That they just wanted me to feel at home, I had no idea that it was all wedding preparations. I guess for now the good thing is that his family and friends love me and want me to be part of the family. We are only about 6 months into our relationship and I don't know what tomorrow will bring, but for now things are good.

Let me just say...when dating a man from a foreign country do lots of research!! Read up on wedding traditions in his country or religion, before you end up married and not know it, if not on paper...in his mind and heart!!

Funny story Hayaty! The Moroccan bride must give her consent to be married. You may want to look into your situation a bit more. Anywho, your adventure brought back some vivid memories, lol. I found some great Moroccan products at concealed jewel inc com, good stuff.
