Destination Honeymoon Hotspot - Adventure lovers, here's your ticket

Ladies and gents (hi GrumpyGroom), I’ve got another travel installment from Globetrotting Cindy. If you’re an adventure junkie, you’ll want to read on…

Looking for an adrenaline packed honeymoon? Why not choose the adventure capital of the world and one of my favorite spots, Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Expect five-star accommodations at three-star price tags, a safe environment and the greatest adventures in the world.

The number one reason people visit Victoria Falls is to see the amazing falls. You’ll want to do a walking tour of the falls through the natural rainforest as well as an aerial ‘Flight of Angels’ by helicopter or light aircraft.

For soft adventure, Zambezi River cruises offer romance and unlimited photo ops to capture hippo pods against flaming sunsets for which the river is famed. Sedate canoeing brings you up close and personal with the wildlife and night while game drives awaken the nocturnal world of the African bush.

For adrenaline junkies, Victoria Falls offers more than a fair fix -- arguably the planet’s wildest whitewater rafting and river boarding (surfing) through ferocious rapids aptly nicknamed The Boiling Pot, The Devil’s Toilet Bowl, The Terminator and Commercial Suicide.

Try the heart-stopping 364 feet bungee-jump off the historic bridge straddling two countries, or a harnessed bridge swing giving a 360-degree view of the river, gorge and bridge. Or take the new bridge slide from the lip of the gorge to the center of the bridge.

For animal lovers, Victoria Falls offers the chance to see big-five wildlife at half the price of a South African safari. Want to get close? Try an interactive elephant-back safari, game-spotting walk, lion encounter walk and drives in open safari vehicles. How’s this for close?

With so much to do in Victoria Falls, it’s a battle between staying within the luxurious confines of your hotel (indulging in a relaxing massage, enjoying cocktails on the balcony, soaking in Nature’s amazing wonders) or venturing out to take on as much of the Vic Falls adventure as you can. But why battle? Simply stay for longer and enjoy it all! I’ll be back to talk about the area’s luxurious and romantic hotels and shopping hotspots so stay tuned.

The photos are amazing. If I ever got that close to a lion, I'd be lunch. And we thought we were being adventurous for our honeymoon by going snorkeling.

Thank you for the shout out! :)

Um, do you not think that in light of the current political situation in Zimbabwe, it's hardly a good idea to be encouraging people to visit the place? For a start, there are safety issues, not to mention ethical ones...

Great article on Victoria Falls as a Honeymoon destination - I agree it is one of the best if not the best. We have a site promoting Victoria Falls and would love to use your article have a look at www.victoriafalls-guide.net.

Thanks and keep up the great blog.

Thanks everyone for your great feedback! And, I do think snorkeling can be adventurous.

I certainly do understand the political situation and I would never recommend traveling to an unsafe area. Victoria Falls is hundreds of miles away from Harare (the only city that saw any violence almost a year ago). While I do agree the political situation is terrible right now, its the local people who will suffer if tourism stops, not the government. As with any trip, I strongly suggest keeping abreast of local news and potentially harmful situations. Cindy was just there last month and said she felt safe 100% of the time.

This is the best place for a couple who loves adventure. The best place to do their wedding. I really love the beauty of Victoria falls. I hope I can visit the place and enjoy how beautiful the place is.
